#3478 Amazing Big Sur Coastline With White Water Views - 15 Minutes To Carmel
Garrapata Ridge House - Sweeping Ocean & Mountain Views - The Irresistible Magic of Big Sur
Welcome to the best of both worlds. Just a 15-minute drive to Carmel and a 20-minute drive to the village of Big Sur, this newly renovated home has breathtaking coastline views from every window. You won't want to leave once you arrive, so stop at Whole foods Market in Monterey or Safeway on the outskirts of Carmel and stock up on your way out of town.
Cooking will be a joy in the newly remodeled chef's dream kitchen as you look through the passway window out to the Pacific Ocean. If you do feel like a drink or meal out, Rocky Point Restaurant, perched on a promontory over crashing waves, is only 2 miles away, and there
are many four-to-five-star restaurants to choose from in Big Sur or Carmel. Whether you decide to go north or south, the drive is incomparable.
From your perch high on the hill in this three-bedroom home, you will experience the peace and beauty of this majestic stretch of coastline where condors soar and the stars are so close you feel like you can pick them out of the sky.
As you traverse the winding paved road leading up to the property, you won't be able to resist stopping the car to get out and drink in the panorama from benches at three vista points. You'll know you've arrived when you see the ovesized rusted-metal fork in the road (pun intended), a whimsical creation of the artist owner.
Upon your arrival you will be greeted by complementary hors d'oeuvres and a bottle of wine or sparkling cider (upon request), passes from the renowned Spa on the Plaza in downtown Monterey that recently has undergone a $2 million renovation, Scheid Wine tasting room passes and a basket of local information. An assigned concierge vacation house manager is at your disposal to assist you during your stay. We have also provided spa amenities in the bathrooms, plush spa bathrobes, slippers, over-sized towels
and beach gear.
This unique home will give you a real taste for what it is to live in Big Sur, a lifestyle that combines a spirit of adventure and individualism with a passion for the unparalleled natural beauty all around. When you enter the living room, with its dramatic cathedral window on one side and wall of glass on the other you'll be swept away by a feeling of expansiveness as you drink in the sweeping view of the sparkling blue Pacific and the undulating contours of the Santa Lucia Mountains, with Highway 1 cutting a ribbon-like swath far below. Relax
and take it all in on a chaise lounge located in the corner and have your favorite book in hand, a soft throw and you will be transported to heaven. A fireplace with an insert and a blower can quickly heat the space, if necessary; there is also forced-air heating. Get a feel for the unique creative flavor of the Central Coast from the selection of paintings by local artists.
Cooking will just be part of the fun from the updated kitchen with its warm terra cotta tiles and jade-green granite countertops. The chef and a helper can do meal prep while sitting at bar stools at the pass-through window and imbibe the views along with conversation from the living room. Everything you can think of for preparing and presenting fabulous meals is provided, from modern appliances, including a stainless steel refrigerator, a double oven and a counter-top range, to cookware and beautiful dishes. Meals will be unforgettable served at a wooden table that seats up to eight.
A figurative metal sculpture made by the owner presides over it all from her place atop a built-in buffet in the dining area. Enjoy a rousing game of ping-pong or play a Broadway show tune at the upright piano in a spacious game room that has white concrete floors and a cast-iron fireplace.
If you prefer less active entertainment, a large flat-screen TV is provided. A washer and dryer are concealed behind white shuttered doors. This room also has two trundle daybeds that can provide up to 4 twin beds for additional sleeping (2 at normal height and 2 at a lowered height, that slide under the trundle daybed.
The master, at the far end of the house, has windows that look out to forever with a wall of closets with mirrored doors that amplifies the effect. Take a relaxing soak and meditate under the night sky in the hot tub just outside the window then tuck yourself in for a peaceful sleep in the king bed with its luxurious linens and sea-foam green coverlet. The master bathroom will make you feel like you are at a resort with its gleaming jade-green tiled shower and flooring, free-standing seashell-shaped marble sink and plush towels.
The other two bedrooms also have dramatic ocean views to uplift and tranquilize. A second bedroom, with a dresser, bench, end table and a closet with built-in shelving, has a queen bed. A third smaller bedroom, also with built-in cabinets and shelving, will soon* have a trundle day bed that can be a single, two singles or convert to a king with a memory foam topper. Both have luxury linens.
The living room has a convertible sofa that is almost the size of a Queen bed and sleeps 2 additional guests.
A second bath with a tub/shower has an organic spa feel, with Italian porcelain mosaic tiling in tones of gray and taupe.
Take your cocktails out to a pair of low-slung redwood chairs flanking a slab of black granite positioned at land's edge and watch the sky change colors as the sun dips below the horizon. A beautiful organic vegetable garden with raised beds and a greenhouse lie off to the side of the house. Follow a short path with gravel steps to a deck facing the mountains where you can practice your golf swing while balls sail into the great beyond. Sit for meditation in a small round carpeted room that looks out to the deep canyon and steep mountain slopes beyond.
This will be a vacation you will never forget. Don't be surprised if the magic of Carmel and the Big Sur Coastline seeps into your very being and you find yourself wanting to return again and again.
PS... the star gazing is spectacular on a clear moonless night and during the day, watch out for the rare California Condor.
