Welcome to "Tranquility Cottage"!

Restful simplicity are the bywords in this sweet, sunny 2-bedroom 1-bath cottage conveniently located just a short distance from many highly desirable destinations, including the rocky shoreline of Monterey Bay and the shops and restaurants of the delightful community of Pacific Grove, fondly called by its inhabitants “the last home town.”

As soon as you open the gate and lay eyes on this brick and wood single-story cottage, with its paned red door and large, open patio and yard dotted with palms, you'll be smitten.

Upon your arrival you will be greeted by complimentary hors d'oeuvres and a bottle of wine or sparkling cider (upon request), passes from the renowned Spa on the Plaza in downtown Monterey, Scheid Wine tasting room passes and a basket of local information. An assigned concierge vacation house manager is at your disposal to assist you during your stay. We have also provided spa amenities in the bathrooms, plush spa bathrobes, oversized towels and beach gear.

You'll find it easy to fall into the peaceful rhythms of the California coast in this spotless uncluttered little charmer that can sleep 4 adults and 1 child. The homey living room, with its white walls, vaulted ceiling and neutral gray carpeting, is furnished with a comfortable sofa upholstered in sage wide-wale corduroy, a wooden desk overlooking the gardens, a black leather easy chair, a black futon that can fold out for additional sleeping, a pine coffee table and a flat-screen TV with video library.

Meal preparation will be fun in this whimsical, efficient updated kitchen with its warm apricot and moss-green color scheme, terra-cotta tile flooring, granite counter tops, handsome wooden cabinetry, gas range, refrigerator and rectangular wooden pedestal table with bench seating fashioned out of converted church pews (seats 4 comfortably). Cookware and dishes are provided. A nearby utility room holds a microwave and washer/dryer.

A Dutch door opens to reveal a lovely secluded yard -- with mature hedges, shrubs and trees, including three towering palms -- where you can leisurely sip your morning coffee at a bistro table and chairs. Or take your cues from a peaceful statue of the Buddha as you kick back and take in a bit of sun and salt air from a comfy chaise lounge. Dine al fresco at a picnic table in a separate spacious patio planted with bougainvillea, roses and fruits trees. If the fog rolls in, you can turn on an outdoor gas heater to take the chill away.

The sunny master bedroom, furnished with a chest of drawers and a queen bed fitted with hotel-quality linens including a coverlet in teal blue, Chinese red and copper, has views out to the private garden.

A second bright sky-lit bedroom features a king that converts to twins with luxury linens and a coverlet in a colorful California garden motif, a night stand, dresser and book shelves.

The white-tiled bathroom, with its Pottery Barn feel, has a tub with shower and creamy plush towels.

Pets are welcome, and the neighborhood is perfect for walking.

Easy off-street parking. When you get out of your car and look down toward Cannery Row you have a wide horizon of blue Pacific to remind you that the beach is calling you.

“Great Rental

The house is adorable and we really enjoyed our stay. We were able to walk to Cannery Row and the aquarium, and were a short drive to Asilomar. The yard was lovely for a BBQ.”

“Cozy Home in Monterey

Stayed for a few days in July and really enjoyed this cozy home. It is less than a mile walk to the aquarium on a fairly quiet street. The walk back does involve some hills, but our calves were better for it.

The only time we got in our car was to enjoy the scenic 17-mile road, while we walked to the bay for whale watching and kayaking, and to several nice restaurants. The living room was big enough for two of us to work in as needed, and the outside patio area was lovely, and quite secluded from the street.  We would have preferred a bigger and softer bed, and when temps reached over 80, the lack of air conditioning was problematic on our first day. We learned to leave the windows open when we left during the day and that helped.”

“Will Recommend To Friends

Because of a house fire we've enjoyed an especially long stay at this sweet cottage. We've grown very fond of the lovely gardens and the cozy and whimsical home. Once you step inside the gate, you're in your own private, secret garden yet surrounded by all the peninsula has to offer. We shall certainly recommend this to friends.”

“Perfect!

It was perfect...couldn't have asked for a better, more cozy, beautiful, comfortable, clean place with a great location...walking distance to the aquarium and cannery row!”

“Perfect Cottage For Our Little Family

This cottage was the perfect size for our family. We have a two month old baby and needed a place to comfortably accommodate the three of us and my mother who came down to babysit while we attended a wedding in the valley. This place was exactly what we needed. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen and bathroom were clean and had very nice fixtures. The quality of the furniture and fixtures were much appreciated. The location was quiet and only 8 blocks from cannery row! I took an am walk with the baby to the grocery store and Starbucks, and enjoyed the crisp air and stunning view of the bay. We used the complimentary aquarium passes and gazed at the jellies all afternoon. We will definitely return to this property in the future. Next time, we hope to stay longer so that we can enjoy the complimentary spa passes as well. The service making the reservations were excellent. They made sure I was getting a place that would match my budget and needs.”

“Comfy Cottage By The Sea

Our family enjoyed this sweet home and walked everywhere! The decor, the outdoor spaces and the wonderful beds made for a comfortable and relaxing stay! We were greeted with a bottle of wine and cheese and crackers upon arrival--a nice bonus! The neighborhood was perfect for my morning runs and I would recommend the cottage to anyone!”

“Cozy, Comfortable, And Close To Everything We Wanted To Enjoy…

Our time at the cottage was lovely. Great to be able to walk to the aquarium (the passes were a nice bonus -- thank you) and Cannery Row. Very comfortable for one couple and a pup, who so enjoyed having a yard to hang out in. Nice, clean kitchen, but we didn't cook in much because of the many great restaurants in the area. Would have loved to spend time on the inviting patio, but a bit chilly this summer! Maybe next time. One downside was no off-street parking. Helpful staff at Sanctuary -- thanks!”

“Nice Stay

My two teenage girls were honored to be the second people who stayed at this nicely decorated cottage. It was conveniently located to restaurants and the aquarium. The amenities of fluffy towels, cheese and wine, coffee and aquarium tickets were a plus! There was also a washer/dryer. The only drawbacks were that there was no dishwasher and the microwave is oddly located. Also, I was unable to use the brand new grill due to it not having coals but the stove was awesome. This cottage was light and bright and I hope to be able to go again.”
