Welcome to "Villa by the Sea"!
**For more details about specials for this home, see the Sanctuary Vacation Rentals website or call our office directly.
This custom European-style 3-bedroom, 2-bath luxury home, just steps from Monterey Bay, will make you feel like you are on the Mediterranean, with fantastic views of whitewater, sailboats, sea life and the mountains beyond!
Ideally located, this tile-roofed 1,800 sqaure-foot beauty is just minutes to downtown Pacific Grove, Cannery Row and the famous Monterey Bay Aquarium and a short drive to Carmel or Pebble Beach. A walking and bike path along the shoreline extends from Cannery Row to Lover’s Point, past the famed succulent carpet of pink blooms, around Pt. Pinos with its trademark lighthouse, all the way to Spanish Bay and world-famous Pebble Beach.
Upon your arrival you will be greeted with complimentary hors d'oeuvres and wine or sparkling cider, passes to the renown Spa on the Plaza in downtown Monterey, tickets for a wine tasting at Scheid Vineyards’ tasting room in downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea and a basket of local information. An assigned concierge vacation house manager is available to assist you during your stay. We have also provided spa amenities in the bathrooms, spa robes and beach gear.
From the moment you set foot on the property, you will feel like you have stepped into another world. A charming wooden gate welcomes you to a brick pathway lined with ferns and trumpet vines that leads to the front door. Enter a vaulted foyer with a magnificent Art Nouveau stained-glass chandelier, a hand-carved Moroccan mirror and an intricately carved antique wood chest from India. A hallway leads to 2 bedrooms and a full bath. One bedroom, with a garden view, has a king bed and a walk-in closet. A second bedroom has an ocean view and a queen bed. Both feature rustic wrought-iron chandeliers, Parisian shutters as headboards, luxury mattresses and linens, as well as Louis XVI-style armchairs. The bathroom with terracotta tiles features a large step-down shower that can be partially filled for a shallow bath. A laundry room with washer and dryer are on this level.
Climb the stairs from the entryway and enter a spacious living room with elegant Old-World charm imparted by a beamed vaulted ceiling, gas fireplace with carved and gilded wooden mirror over the mantle, a chocolate-colored velvet couch, leather and tapestry side chairs, an antique library table and a leather-covered mahogany coffee table. The only touch of modernity is a large flat-screen TV. Bay windows looks out to the handsome neighboring homes, Monterey cypresses and the ocean.
The second-floor master bedroom has an air of opulence created by the wood-beamed ceiling, bronze Moroccan chandelier, king bed, walk-in closet and a magnificent view of whitewater breaking on the rocks below. The large terracotta tiled bathroom with its walk-in shower, his-and-her sinks and a separate commode complete this luxurious suite.
This is a home where relaxation is a part of every room. Even the kitchen and dining room feature tranquilizing views of white-capped waves on the bay and beyond to distant mountains. The joy of cooking takes on new meaning in the fully-equipped, white ceramic-tiled kitchen from which you may catch sight of an occasional whale or a pod of dolphins. Cooks will delight in the carefully conceived layout which includes a Wolf gas stove, side-by-side stainless steel refrigerator, dishwasher and microwave. A long countertop divides the cooking and dining areas which allows the cook to serve diners without missing any of the fun.
The adjacent dining area has a long wooden antique table seats up to 8 beneath a European wrought-iron chandelier. Enjoy daylight views of fishing boats, gamboling seals and gulls gliding on the currents of sea air while dining.
The home has a 2-car, non-attached garage, a driveway for 2 additional cars, and there is ample on-street parking.

“Beautiful villa, great location! This pretty house is elegantly furnished, well equipped, and very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the quiet location and great views across the bay, an excellent base to visit Carmel and also at the start of the 17 Mile Scenic Drive which was fabulous! The short walk to Cannery Row was perfect for dining out. Loved our stay. Would re-visit."

“Beautiful and convenient. We really enjoyed out time, most of it spent in the kitchen and dining room with a view of the ocean. Everything you could want in the kitchen, including a good quality of spices. All elements of the entire units are very nice and plentiful. The master suite is very comfortable and the two bedrooms downstairs are as well. The entry to the unit is even sweet. Convenient to everything. And our daily visits by charming Charlie the seagull made the trip all the more entertaining. The bottle of wine and cheese spread appie was enjoyed. The property manager was easy to work with!"

"We had a very nice stay in Monterey at the Villa by the Sea. Thank you! In fact, I am wondering if you might be able to tell me or find out for me, what kind of queen size mattress was that? I honestly had 3 of the best nights of comfortable rest that I have ever had, and would like to purchase one of those for myself. Thank you again for your hospitality, and all of the nice amenities and special touches that made our stay most enjoyable!"

"Daydreaming About Returning To The Villa By The Sea
I rented the Villa by the Sea in Monterey for 4 nights in January of 2015. My husband and I invited another couple to join us. There are two bedrooms downstairs and a master bedroom upstairs and there are two large bathrooms. So, the space allowed each couple a good deal of privacy. The upstairs living room, kitchen, and dining room are well equipped, bright, and cheerful. The company, the weather, the location, the residence, assistance from the manager, the nearby amenities and sites were all perfect. Absolutely perfect. Now your experience might vary depending on your choice of friends and the luck of the weather, but as for the rest you, can count on a truly memorable, peaceful, and restful get-away. I have many wonderful memories of trips taken all over the world. But now I daydream about returning to the Villa by the Sea, so close to the San Francisco Bay Area."

“We Had High Expectations But Received Even More!
My wife and I along with our two dearest friends arrived to find Villa by the Sea to be exactly as described but with pleasant surprises we would not have expected. The layout of the home and superbly appointed kitchen provided that sense of "being at home" but with a spectacular bay view..wow and WOW! Julia Menendes, our property manager, was so very gracious and accomodating...we felt that we were staying at the home of another "old family friend." We enjoyed the Monterey hospitality of a few of our favorite haunts (can I begin to say enough about Evelyn at Red's Donuts?? I think not!!) the Sardine Factory, Cannery Row Brewery, Massaro and Santos...the list goes on...picked up amazing produce at the Farmer's Market and discovered new delights in Pacific Grove (how have we missed Pavel's Backerei???). We would recommend this experience to anyone that wants to enjoy the best that Monterey has to offer but who wants to enjoy it at their own pace and schedule... ( be sure to take the beach equipment and picnic supplies and "find yourself" at Asilomar) Five stars from the Smiths and Stinsons <3”

“Fantastic Location And View!
We had a wonderful vacation in this lovely home. The location is fantastic - about a block from the bike/walking path, within walking distance of cannery row, wonderful view of the ocean (bring your binoculars to see sea otters and seals playing in the kelp beds). Paddle boarding and kayaking were highlights and are within walking/biking distance. The property manager and everyone I spoke with at Sanctuary Vacation Rentals were so friendly and helpful - even for an after hours call when we locked the garage door opener in the garage. I would definitely recommend this company.”

“Two Thumbs Up
This condo was a great location for a recent family get-together. We used this condo and the one next door to fit fourteen people for four days. The house was totally furnished, with what seemed like any kitchen gadget you might want. The location is excellent. I can't say enough good things about it.”

“Villa By The Sea Pacific Grove
We had a wonderful time at Villa by the Sea in Pacific Grove. I had read some of the reviews and I didn't realize how great the views were from the dining and kitchen area and master bedroom. The welcoming tray of wine and cheese was really nice. The ability to walk to Lovers Point or cannery row was really great. The kitchen was charming and with the windows in the dining room made it one of the best rooms in the house, My suggestion for improvement would be a second bedside table for the bedrooms for water. The management responded promptly on a holiday weekend when we accidentally misplaced our garage door opener and checked back with us later to make sure we were able to locate and use the spare. It was a fun place to stay for our adult family and I would recommend it to any family that doesn't have small children or problems with stairs.”

“Wonderful Place To Stay In Monterey CA!
This is a wonderful place to stay. Very comfortable and roomy. We walked a block to the ocean and were able to see the harbor seals and their pups hanging on the beach. Walk to the Aquarium, Cannery Row and even Fisherman's Wharf! If I had to complain at all, and I really shouldn't, it would be to have more lounging chairs in the living room. The beds were very comfortable - better than I have at home!
We had a seagull that would hang out with us on the small balcony. If we left the door open, he would just stare in at us. We visited Cooper's Pub a number of times and met some locals (including the owner of the bar) and got good tips on things to do and places to go. Highly recommend a trip there and sit at the bar to get good info. If you can spare the time, take a trip to Phil's Fish Market and Eatery in Moss Landing. Best Seafood we had! Also, Sandbar & Grill on the less populated area at Fisherman's Wharf. More locals, fewer tourists! 17 Mile drive is a must. Eat at Pebble Beach Golf Club and pretend your are a famous golfer! I would not hesitate to come back again!”
Owner’s Response: Dear Suzanne, Thank you so much for your great review. I was so touched to read about Charlie "C" gull. He is my tame Sea Gull-Jonathan Livingston . I have a video of him eating out of my best friend's hand. The last time I was there I did not see him and thought he had gone. Please come back and see Charlie and all of us. “This Was A Terrific Place To Stay--Lovely Home And Setting.
We were quite impressed with the house that we rented from Sanctuary Vacation Rentals. Not only were they pleasant to work with, they followed up with any detail that was needed. We needed some help with the drains in a bathroom and the plumber was there within an hour to fix the problem. We also had left an expensive item in the house and I received a call the next day and it was shipped back to us asap. We would rent from them again without hesitation.”

Our family was very pleased with the ambiance and location of this rental. We found the wine and cheese which was provided, a pleasant start to a wonderful weekend. Despite saying so may make it more difficult to rent due to it's popularity, I strongly recommend this rental.”

“Perfect Family Vacation
We had such a fun-filled vacation in Sanctuary by the Sea! The home and location were perfect for us. We ate in, we ate out, we walked right out the door for meals, and numerous activities or just to walk down the block to watch the harbor seals. Sitting on the deck and reading a book (or staring out to the bay)and listening to the sound on the waves breaking, drinking a cup of coffee before everyone else woke up in the morning, was my ideal way to spend a moment alone. It was great to have a home that all 5 of us could relax in and enjoy together. I can't wait to go back!”

This home has all that was promised. The view from the balcony is outstanding! The home is warm and welcoming from the cozy fireplace with homemade afghans to curl up with. The kitchen is fully stocked with high end dishes and cooking gear. The bedrooms all have very comfortable beds and the baths have the thickest towels! Nothing has been left out...even a friendly seagull that seems to know a soft touch when he sees it. The location is the best! You can walk to everything, even the market! Cannery Row is just steps away. We would highly recommend this vacation home!”

“Stunning Oceanview Home In Pacific Grove Central To Everything
We rented this gorgeous home (and the adjoining home) for a family wedding week on the Monterey Peninsula. The cook's kitchen and spacious dining area allowed us to gather groups of 12 to 14 for wonderful meals with the sights and sounds of Monterey Bay as our backdrop. Every bed was 5 star hotel comfortable, and the 2.5 bath set up easily handled our group. The cozy living room was the perfect spot to relax in front of the fireplace at the end of the day. There is a great laundry room with ironing set up, and a large garage with additional off street parking for another car. This was very handy during the July 4th weekend. This home is a half block from the Pacific Coast trail for walking, jogging, and cycling along the coast. You can watch sea otters while you eat your breakfast, or stroll a half block along the coast and visit the harbor seal colony. Restaurants, shops, coffee and a local grocer are a five minute walk away. Although this home is central, it was very quiet at night for sleeping. This is a two level home that has a fairly steep tiled staircase that would be challenging for folks with mobility issues, and dangerous for young children.”

The bathrooms were also clean and really big with luxurious towels. There was wine and Boursin cheese waiting our arrival, which was awesome. The kitchen was fully equipped and there were ocean views throughout the beautiful upstairs. “Romantic, Gorgeous Light-Filled Rooms, Beautifully Decorated…
This lovely home was picture perfect with wonderful views of Monterey Bay and light-filled rooms decorated with exquisite taste. Everything about the location and amenities suited us--we walked all over Pacific Grove (either on the Bay walk or on Central ave. to enjoy the Victorian houses). The Chef's kitchen was a dream to work in and to enjoy the super dining table and balcony view of the Bay. We loved the easy to work fireplace for cool mornings and evenings. Everything was perfect with the minor exception of the TV which needs to be taken off the Internet when guests leave. We want to come back.”

“Totally Fabulous Vacation!
My family and I recently stayed in this home and we all loved it. It was very well equipped, centrally located, and had awesome views as well. We loved the fact that we could walk to the aquarium, Cannery Row, grocery store, restaurants. The weather was outstanding! Of course, if you've been to that part of the country, you will already know that. The home was fabulous though ... not really sure I can even do this place justice by writing about it. You just need to go there. Oh, and the people I worked with to book this trip were amazing! We had two small children with us and they made the home "child friendly" just for our visit. It was a very pleasant experience all around. Would definitely stay here again if we are fortunate enough to be able to make that trip again. ;o)”

“Stunningly Beautiful Home And View
My husband and I brought my brother, his girlfriend and my cousin to California for much needed healing time after the death of my mother after a year battle with a bad fall. This was the perfect place for this healing. The home is immaculate and beautifully appointed - the bedrooms, the common areas and especially the kitchen. We spent almost all our time (when we weren't walking the beach) in the kitchen and the deck overlooking the beautiful ocean. The location of this home is ideal for what we needed (see above).
