"Wonderful home that meets more than our expectations. Lots of space for a large family or a couple families. Great location for access to the beach and walking to many attractions. The kitchen is a dream!! The heated floors feel wonderful on the feet. Great views from most rooms. Nice quiet and peaceful neighborhood with lovely park across the street. Wish we could stay longer!"

"An absolutely beautiful home with wonderful touches and fun window alcoves for our daughters to read in. Plenty of room for the 7 of us. Our daughters loved the spa, and the firepit was a great surprise. All of us plan to come again to Monterey and we want to stay in this same home - 5 Stars!"

"Fabulous Home In Pacific Grove
We spent four nights at this beautiful home (3 couples) just blocks from Monterey Bay. Great location for exercise and beautiful sights - many whale sightings. The home was clean and comfortable with everything you need - just bring your clothes and food. The kitchen was wonderful for preparing meals - lots of room and top-of-the-line appliances. A nice welcome gift of wine, crackers & cheese was a nice touch. Management was very helpful when we had questions. Definitely recommend this property. Restaurants we loved: Dametra Cafe in Carmel, Vivolo's Chowder House in Pacific Grove and Nepenthe's in Big Sur."

“Restorative to the Soul: Otter's Rest
Swiss philosopher Alain de Botton says it best: "architecture of happiness". Otter's Rest is one of those places that keeps you yearning for just one more night. The understated exterior is the perfect backdrop for for some of the most beautiful ocean vistas in the world. Once inside it is apparent how sophisticated and luxurious simplicity can be. From the inviting living room, serious chef's kitchen, elegant dining room, three spacious bedrooms , baths to dream views from office this is our favorite vacation home. From the ease of booking with Joyce at Sanctuary Rentals to our interaction with the impeccable house manager, Julia we found Otter's Rest to be everything and more. We cannot wait to return for our THIRD visit. Thank you Annie!”

Very enjoyable time at Otter's Rest. This has the best equipped kitchen in any house we've ever rented. We loved being so close to the ocean and parks. We had our happy hour upstairs watching the whales. Julia (house manager) was very helpful. A couple things that would make this place even better: Upgrade the TV (very basic channel selections, no DVR, etc.) The teak furniture in the backyard is really weathered. No TV in master bedroom, but there really isn't a wall for it (all windows). Overall, a very nice stay. Thanks.”

“A Great Stay At Otter’s Rest
My family and I just returned from a wonderful four night visit at Otter's Rest. The five of us were extremely comfortable in this lovely home. We found it to be spotlessly clean and comfortable. It contained everything we needed for a great stay. The location is wonderful, just a very short walk to the sea and short drive to town. We hope to return next year.”

“Serene And Elegant Home, Close To Every Attraction
As others have noted, the photos do not do these home justice! It is simply beautiful. We were a little concerned about it being only 3 bedrooms for our group of 8 (3 adults, 5 kids), but the home is very spacious - especially the 2 upstairs bedrooms. I We loved being in Pacific Grove - the town is so charming and has easy proximity to both Monterey and Carmel. This home was the perfect home base for our family getaway. Some of the highlights include:
LARGE UPDATED KITCHEN - we ate nearly every meal in the house and the kitchen was very well appointed and beautifully updated. We spent much of our time standing around the island chatting, snacking, and cooking
MASTER SUITE - HUGE! Ocean view, large tub, and sitting area made for a peaceful retreat.
OUTDOOR PATIO - The kids loved running around in the back and we enjoyed eating outdoors on a couple of the warm evenings.
STREET LOCATION - The street is very peaceful without through traffic. Only 2 blocks to the beach, we enjoyed frequent walks down to the water. It is a beautiful neighborhood!
We loved just being together in this house and really felt at home. In our 4 day stay we were able to hit the beach, visit the aquarium, go to Carmel, ride an 8 person Surrey on the bike path, go on runs along the trails, and take in all the sights and sounds of this lovely location. It was very well appointed and we enjoyed our welcome wine and cheese! Thank you for a lovely stay, We hope to return - soon!”

“Infinitely Better Than A Hotel
This home is a beautiful retreat in the idyllic town of Pacific Grove. It is tastefully designed and furnished, complete with extras like a house-wide speaker system and heated floors. The home is very large (we initially passed it by, not believing it was our rental) yet cozy in the common areas. The outdoor area feels like an oasis / zen garden, and the views of the ocean from several spots in the house make it that much more special. In addition, the rental company added a few extras (welcoming wine & cheese, deals at a local spa), that brought the experience up a level. Highly satisfied and highly recommended.”

“Can’t Wait To Come Back!
I’ve been visiting Pacific Grove for at least 3 – 4 times a year for the past 7 years, but this was the first time I ever rented a vacation home or tried the Sanctuary Vacation Rentals company. The reason I chose Otter’s Rest was: 1) its location, 2) I could bring my dogs with me (and they go everywhere with me!) and, 3) the interesting look of the house. I can tell you, I was NOT disappointed. The house is peaceful and comfortable (not stuffy). I loved the big kitchen with its butcher block island and the window by the kitchen sink that I could look out towards the ocean and the back yard while I washed dishes. There’s a small park just across the street from the house that’s perfect for dog “potty breaks” if you bring your dogs. And what’s extra great about it is that people in the neighborhood are conscientious about picking up after their dogs. It was super clean. I really enjoyed my early morning walks with the dogs. A few minutes walk down to Oceanview Blvd we’d hop onto the walking path that hugs the coast headed toward Lover’s Point. It was my morning “nirvana.” Walking along the ocean, waves breaking, birds chirping, an occasional “good morning” from other people walking by… It was heaven. The master bedroom in the house is very comfortable (the bed was great!) and has windows that face the ocean. I loved opening the window in the evening and hearing the sound of the waves and seals barking in the distance. The neighborhood is awesome!! I met a few of the people living in the neighborhood on my dog walks and all I can say is - - - what a super bunch of people! Really friendly! The guest book mentions to be respectful of the neighbors and it’s so right! What a great neighborhood. For being my first vacation rental home, I could not have made a better choice. I think the only thing I would have changed is the couch in the living room. The couch is not very comfortable for sitting on or for watching movies at night. But that would be it! Everything else was great!”

“Pacific Grove Get-Away
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Otter's Rest. The location of the house is excellent - the bay is only a block away. Traveling to visit the sights of the Monterey Peninsula was extremely easy. Our party of three couples has several years experience renting vacation homes and we all agreed that this home provides some of the best amenities, from the well-provisioned kitchen to thick and fluffy bath towels. The house is very spacious and welcoming. We appreciated all the little special touches!”

“Paradise Is Here!
We stayed at Esplanade 1/29-2/2/14 to celebrate my 50th bday. When we arrived, we were absolutely in awe! We thought the pictures of this home were gorgeous, but honestly they didn't do it justice. It was even MORE beautiful and perfect than the pictures! The house was spotlessly clean and stocked with ANYTHING and more that your heart could desire. It's spacious and modern with it's beautiful art and décor, walls of windows, gorgeous gourmet kitchen, dreamy deep tub and large master bath, dramatic lighting, romantic and serene spa and adorable yard with gorgeous plants, the wondrous sound of the waves at sea, plenty of seating, bbq and a fire pit! I've been going to Monterey twice a year since I was a child and I've NEVER stayed in a place as much as I just wanted to stay at Esplanade and enjoy! Our loving dog had a wonderful time too! Our kids were able to spend a night and 2 days with us and it was glorious! The home is a 3 minute walk to the ocean with a magnificent walking trail that goes on forever! Sanctuary Vacation Rentals gave us top notch customer service and we wanted for nothing. We enjoyed working out, many long walks along the ocean and wooded areas, watching the seals and otters play, dreaming on the beach, many fabulous meals at The Beach House, Chart House, C Restaurant and Sardine Factory and shopping. We picked gourmet dinners up to bring back to this gorgeous home because we couldn't get enough of it! I have recommended it to several friends and they are planning their trips! We are planning our next trip already! If you love the Monterey/Pacific Grove area, you must rent this fabulous home and if you've never experienced paradise, well, look no further! Thank you again for everything and for making this my BEST birthday ever!”

“Christmas W Family
Six of us stayed for 5 days over Christmas. Perfect weather, cooperative whales and otters, fantastic house. Peppers Mexican Restaurant featured Clint Eastwood dining at the same time we were there. The house was PERFECT for our needs.
Everything worked except ice maker...and it would have been good if the mgmt had turned the refrigerator up to normal temp b4 our arrival so we didn't have to discover by accident that ice cream was melting. We loved the heated floors...and will definitely return in the future. Wonderful piece of property, and even a friendly neighbor who cheerfully and trustingly loaned us a piece of kitchen equipment we'd forgotten to bring along.”

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, plenty of room for 7 adults. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare our Thanksgiving meal. We were especially impressed with the attention to detail -- flashlight, extra batteries, pens, notepads, all the "little things" that help to complete our stay. We look forward to another visit in the future.”

“Lovely Home In Pacific Grove
We had a great experience at this home. The kitchen was huge and well stocked with all the necessary amenities, well appointed bathrooms (nice plush towels, Trader Joe's bath products a nice touch) and the beds were comfy. My one suggestion would be to add a new, larger sofa in the living room. The fire place was great, the lighting was awesome, but there was no place to really spread out with a good book. Otherwise it was one of the best vacation rentals we've stayed in.”

Luxurious Tranquility In Pacific Grove, CA
From the moment you enter the front door of Otter's Rest you may rest assured that you will have a vacation stay filled with luxurious tranquility.
The property's floor-plan is thoughtfully designed with a private bedroom and bathroom downstairs and two master suites upstairs. The gourmet kitchen is expansive and fully equipped for the most discerning of chefs. The home boasts breathtaking views of Monterey Bay from many of the rooms and is situated about six houses from the ocean where you'll find a beautiful ocean-side walking path. The property managers obviously pay attention to detail and are gracious in their communication and assistance. “Beautiful Home, Great Location
We stayed in "Otter's Rest" during Pebble Beach Concours Week 2013. The house is very well appointed with lots of bed, bath, and table linens; attractive furniture; fireplaces inside and out; a large hot tub; and more kitchen equipment than we needed. I appreciated that the two attractive upstairs bedrooms and bathrooms are very spacious and the landing at the top of the stairs is big enough for a double airbed. We also enjoyed having a good sound system and laundry facilities. The downstairs bedroom is convenient for older or handicapped guests. The location is great for anyone who wants to enjoy the coast. I was impressed with Sanctuary Vacation Rentals quick response when we checked in and found a few things not to our satisfaction. Because of this, I wouldn't hesitate to stay at Otter's Rest again and would recommend it to other travelers. One note: the two-car garage has two single-car doors. That wouldn't matter to most people, but could be important to guests bringing a show car to Concours Week. Oh - and two more things - we appreciated the upstairs office area and great Wi-Fi, as well as the cozy window benches in the living room.”
