Welcome to Anchors Away! Sleeps up to 8 adults & 1 child.

Incredible sweeping views of the Monterey Bay can be seen from this nautically themed home located just steps away from the beach, the Monterey Peninsula Recreation Trail and Pacific Grove Marine Gardens Park.

The 1,800-square-foot home on Pacific Grove’s famous Ocean View Boulevard has a distinct sense of history, with an 1880s anchor recovered from the bay as an accent in the front yard, artwork of ships and the bay, historic maps and other intriguing items throughout.

Views of the bay can be seen from almost every room. A huge picture window in the living room has endless views of seabirds, whales and waves, updated décor, two leather sectionals with chaise and club chairs. The great room with its coastal décor theme has a wide range of oceanic blues that reflect the Pacific waters outside and this theme is carried throughout the home. Guests can enjoy a gas fireplace with beautifully carved vintage surround, a library of local history books, board games and a 50-inch HDTV.

The 4-bedroom, 2.5-bath residence is only a few minutes to downtown Monterey, Fisherman’s Wharf and the Monterey Bay Aquarium, 10 minutes to Carmel-by-the-Sea and Pebble Beach® and 45 minutes to Big Sur.

The private fenced back yard, landscaped with tropical plants, ferns and bougainvillea, is a lush retreat that’s perfect for an afternoon barbecue on the gas grill or lounging on teak patio furniture and watching the bay views through the living room.

The fully-equipped kitchen has a wall oven and gas cooktop as well as a large sink with pullout faucet. An adjacent dining room area seats six around a wooden table and a breakfast nook with bistro seating for two can be found at the other end of the kitchen. A half-bath is also available off the kitchen.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms
Downstairs, Bedroom #1 known as the Captain’s Room, features antique furnishings, including a vintage wooden queen bed and a carved mirror salvaged from the captain's quarters of a ship. Nautical artwork and a wood burl table accent the room. A sitting area with leather club chairs flanks a window with gorgeous bay views and built-in shelves with a selection of books. A nearby powder room/half bath is accessed through the kitchen.

Also downstairs, on the other side of the living area, two other bedrooms can be found near an updated full bath featuring an extra-deep tub/shower combination with grip bar and custom subway tile. This level also has a powder room/half bathroom located near the kitchen.
Bedroom #2 features a California king bed, 42-inch HDTV and a leather chaise sofa.
Bedroom #3 has a king bed.

Bedroom #4, known as the Crow’s Nest, has a separate entrance that can be accessed through Bedroom #1. The Crow’s Nest is located upstairs and has amazing ocean views through a picture window, where you can watch whales, waves, or ships going by. Additional views of the Recreation Trail and rocky shoreline can be enjoyed from a balcony off this bedroom. The suite has a bunk bed with a queen below and a twin on top. The adjacent bathroom has a shower over deep tub. A small bar has a sink and an under counter refrigerator.

A washer and dryer are available for guest use. One off street parking space is available in front and another on the side of the property, with additional plentiful parking on the street.

This is our second year in a row renting Anchors Away for our family to make wonderful memories. We came back this year because the location is perfect when you have little ones that can simply just walk across the street to the beach and it’s a very quiet neighborhood. You can sit at the front window and see the sea life and go walk across the street and pick up shells and beautiful rocks. The location of the beds is perfect to spread out just enough so you’re not on top of each other. We plan on returning again.

Overall Comment

This was a last minute rental to escape the smoke and power outages - and was a great find! Beautiful views and spacious living room that was comforable for a big group. It would have been good to know that one of the 2 full bathrooms was located up stairs in the newer addition for the house as it was not very accessible. Other than that - it was great!
