Welcome to “Surf’s Up”! Sleeps 4

Park your car, and walk everywhere from this pet and family-friendly cottage — where you can hear the cry of seagulls during the day and the murmur of waves at night — just steps away from spectacular Lovers Point, the beach, and restaurants and shopping in downtown Pacific Grove.

The 2-bedroom, 1-bath newly painted historic home, known as the C.A. McCoy House and built in 1887, features large open rooms and a generously sized laundry room with plenty of space to stow beach gear. Tall ceilings and windows that let in plenty of natural light give this residence a spacious ambiance, with easy-care vinyl plank flooring that is perfect for pet owners.

Besides being just steps from the beach, the 985-square-foot home also offers easy access to attractions such as Pacific Grove Municipal Golf Links, Point Pinos Lighthouse and Asilomar State Beach, and to the Monterey Peninsula Recreation Trail, perfect for walking, running or cycling.

The house is also in the heart of Pacific Grove’s city park network, and is close to Jewell Park, Caterpillar Park and Caledonia Park, which includes a tots’ play area, climbing equipment for older children and picnic tables. A little further south is George Washington Park, a forested area with nature and hiking trails. Also nearby is the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History, offering displays and information on plants, animals and sealife of the region.

It’s also only a few minutes by car to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and historic Cannery Row. Downtown Monterey, Carmel and golfing in Pebble Beach are a 10-minute drive away, and other attractions within a half hour’s drive are the natural wonders of Big Sur and wine tasting and dining in Carmel Valley Village.

Upon your arrival, you will be greeted with complimentary cheese and wine or sparkling cider, wine tasting passes and a basket of local information. An assigned concierge vacation house manager is available to assist you during your stay. We have also provided beach towels as well as spa amenities and spa robes in the bathrooms.

Guests can enter through the mint-green front door from the porch, or through the side door into the kitchen. The front door opens into the living room, which includes a comfortable dark blue couch, a coffee table, several chairs, a modern metal chandelier, and a 46-inch HDTV.

The living room is next to the dining room, which features ocean-themed wall art and a glass-topped dining table with 4 metal chairs. Another door leads into the kitchen, which features an electric range, dishwasher, generous amounts of cupboard and counter space, and blue cabinetry and white tile countertops and backsplash.

The two bedrooms each feature queen beds with a color scheme in white, gray and blue, with cozy white quilted comforters, fabric headboards and ocean-themed wall art. One bedroom has two nightstands and lamps, while the other has a single side table. The bedrooms share a large hallway bathroom with a shower over an antique clawfoot tub.

The laundry room features a washer and dryer as well as ample space for storage. There is a parking space for one vehicle next to the house with access through an adjacent alley, and additional parking on the street.

This house is newly renovated, very clean and in a perfect location to experience Pacific Grove at its fullest. My only issues were that I had rented a large car that was difficult to park both on the street and in the driveway. Other than that and the fact that there were no hand towels, wash clothes or bath mats in the house the rental was perfect.

Thanks for your review of your recent stay at Surf's Up. We are please you enjoyed the home and the great location but we do apologize for the missed bath linens. Parking is difficult for larger vehicles in Pacific Grove with smaller driveways but otherwise thrilled that you enjoyed the home and the area.
