Description

Welcome to “Storybook Cottage!” Home sleeps up to 6 guests.

Walk to the Monterey Bay Aquarium from this outstanding location. Ask our Reservationists about two days for the price of one admission tickets when you book this home!

You'll be enchanted from the moment you lay eyes on this 2-story, 1268 square feet, 4-bedroom 2-bath cottage with its warm wheat-colored stucco exterior accented with soft-green shutters and trim, white picket fence and front yard planted in colorful flowering natives. The entire home has been updated to perfection and is furnished with a casually sophisticated decor.

Upon your arrival you will be greeted with complementary wine and cheese, tickets for a wine tasting at Scheid Vineyards’ tasting room in downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea and a basket of local information. An assigned concierge vacation house manager is available to assist you during your stay. We have also provided spa amenities in the bathrooms, spa robes and beach gear.

The great room features a painted-brick gas fireplace, dark hardwood floors, sand-colored walls, white draperies and a white ceiling crisscrossed with dark brown beams. Arched doors and decorative accents throughout add to the magic of this unique cottage.

Relax and enjoy conversations in a cozy living room with two comfortable white sofas, an upholstered arm chair and an ottoman that serves as a coffee table or extra seating, all atop a floral area rug. There is a 42" HDTV with Blu-Ray Disc Player, a small video collection and a small library.

Enjoy meals in the nearby dining area, which has a pine-topped farm-style table, a bench plus 6 chairs with patterned cushions.

The newly renovated kitchen is gorgeous - equipped with everything a chef could want to create gourmet meals. Among the features: white granite counter tops, gray cabinetry, a central island, white tile floors in a honeycomb pattern and an antiqued hutch. Gleaming stainless steel appliances include a gas range in the central island, an oven, side-by-side refrigerator and a dishwasher. A nook holds a stacking washer-dryer behind a wooden door. French doors from the kitchen, offering peeks of the bay, open to a side yard with lawn enclosed by a 6’ redwood fence. A gas grill and a table for 6 are provided.

A small pass-through bathroom between the kitchen and a sitting room has a shower with white honeycomb tile, a free-standing ceramic sink and a commode.

Relax with a book on a white wrought-iron trundle bed in a small adjacent room that could be a 4th bedroom. The trundle, which has a white coverlet and embroidered pillows, can sleep 2. This room also includes a wing-back chair, two small wrought iron tables, a wrought-iron lamp and a floral area rug.

The 2nd story has 3 bedrooms and 1 bath. The handsomely appointed master has glimpses of the water between trees. The bedroom is furnished with a queen with luxury linens, blue and white coverlet and shams, bedside tables with wrought iron bases shaped like tree branches, an antique oak dresser, 2 small trunks, and a carved-wood-framed chair upholstered in a white and blue floral pattern.

The bathroom has a small shower with tan and brown checkerboard-patterned tiles, a white tiled floor and a free-standing ceramic sink with an oval mirror.

Bedroom 2 has two twins which convert to a king with Memory Foam topper, with luxury linens, a patterned area rug and 2 white dressers.

The 3rd smaller bedroom has a double bed with luxury linens, white floral quilted coverlet, white wooden bedside tables and a small desk. A corner window reveals whitewater crashing on Lover's Point in the distance.

One small car can be parked in the garage; on-street parking is available. Everything is provided for a day at the beach, located only 5 minutes away. The aquarium is about 20 minutes away on foot.

Small dogs under 25lbs may be welcomed upon owner approval.

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!  We found the Storybook Cottage to be charming, cozy, and perfect for out family celebration. The kitchen is well equipped, nice linens on the beds, luxurious towels, and robes were a nice touch. The cottage was tastefully decorated."

"Charming, beautifully appointed, and comfortable!  We loved our time at the charming Storybook Cottage. There were many special little details, which made our vacation so cozy and comfortable -- little luxuries like a welcoming bottle of wine, board games, spa robes, and little decorative treasures. Beautiful kitchen, comfortable beds, in a lovely house with really special architectural details. All in a perfectly located neighborhood. We explored Big Sur from here, and loved coming home to the Storybook Cottage."

"Lovely cottage - charming as advertised!  A group of four professionals attending a conference stayed here and loved it. Quiet spot a short walk to the bay and easy access to downtown Monterey (via car). We fondly nicknamed it 'the hobbit house,' because of the low archways and tiny shower stalls. But even our very tall colleague was comfortable. Beautiful kitchen, comfy beds, plenty of towels - and we appreciated the welcome basket of wine!"

"Amazing Cottage in Pacific Grove!  This place truly has a cottage style. The decor and design inside and outside is very charming. The location is perfect between both Monterey and Carmel both a short drive away. When we arrived they place was really clean.  We did have a heater issue, but they were extremely quick to fix it. The bathroom sinks are but small. Overall, this was great location and clean place with fully stocked kitchen."

"Amazing Property that you just don't want to leave!  We had such a wonderful time at this cottage. The owners left no detail untouched and the overall appearance of everything was immaculate. My wife wanted to live there forever! It accommodates everything so well and it's location to everything makes it the perfect place for exploring the areas around! We definitely plan on using this place again in the future!!!"

"Adorable cottage in a great location!  My family stayed here over spring break and had a wonderful time. Despite being rented the night before we came to town, we were allowed to check in early, which was a great convenience. The rental company was very on the ball and easy to communicate with. Kitchen is designed well, with everything you need to make a nice meal, and there are several markets within a 10-minute walk where you can grab provisions. House was spotless. LR/DR is nicely furnished and a good balance: small enough to be cozy, but not cramped. It was about a 15 minute walk to the aquarium in one direction, or a ten minute walk to Lover's Point in the other. Beautiful bedding and fluffy towels! Peaks of the ocean out the bedroom windows, too.

Being an old house, the stair treads are narrower than today's building code. And the steps actually run right up to the very edge of the door frames of two of the three bedrooms on the second floor, so that when you step into the hall from those bedrooms, you are about an inch away from the very first tread. Quirks like this are part of the charm of the place, and it was perfectly fine for my tween and teen. But given the stairs setup, this house is definitely best suited for adult couples and families with older kids."

~ E. Strathmann, oakland, ca

"It felt like home!  Five senior women found their way to this cottage to co-celebrate their birthdays (326 years total). It suited every one of our needs and we were astounded to see that it anticipated needs we did not know we had! The kitchen was so complete that it became a game to think of something it did not have....no! It was all there (possibly not a cheese grater but we are convinced we just missed it!). The entire home was clean and organized with extra supplies. It was cozy, bathed in pleasant colors and decorated to feel exceptional but lived-in! We loved the location......close to restaurants and shopping but except for the day the gardener came by, we mostly saw neighbors walking their small dogs in the mornings. It felt like home!"

"Wonderful Storybook Cottage.  Wonderful well appointed cottage in a prime location close to water and amenities. Plenty of room for a large family or 2 couples. Our family came to California from Canada to celebrate our parents/grandparents 50th anniversary. The Storybook Cottage was the perfect home for this event.  The house is very well decorated and well equipped.  The homey feel of the place made it very easy to feel right at home.  Thank you for sharing your home."

"Beautiful, clean and cozy home away from home!  We had a fabulous stay at the storybook cottage with our family and would totally recommend it to others traveling to the area. The home was spotless, beautiful and so cozy, a perfect home away from home. The location can't be beat, we loved walking down to the water and out to lovers point. The beds were incredibly comfortable, and the kitchen was gorgeous, we had fun cooking there in the evenings! Thanks for a wonderful stay!"

"Perfect in every way!  We have rented vacation homes countless times, from Florida to Hawaii, but none as charming, clean, and well-appointed as Storybook Cottage. The photos capture this spotless home exactly. The little extra touches -- from comfy bathrobes to blackout shades to the many fluffy throw blankets to keep us warm -- made this as comfortable as our own home. This home is truly vintage, with arched doorways and stunning wood floors, but with every updated amenity you could imagine. We loved sitting outside with a glass of wine in the cool evenings. And it is within walking distance to the coast, the aquarium, grocery stores, and Cannery Row with its many restaurants and wine-tasting rooms, plus a short mile to the 17-Mile Drive. I can't say enough good things about Storybook Cottage. It is truly perfection."

"Outstanding cottage!  We have stayed in many VRBO properties, and this one was without a doubt the most fully and well appointed.
All the amenities you would expect at home!  It is a cozy cottage, meaning rooms are relatively small, but we found it perfect for our family of four. We rarely used the car, about a 10-15 minute walk to the Aquarium and Cannery Row.  Highly recommended!"

"Perfect place to bring together family and friends!  Staying at the Storybook Cottage was exactly what I hoped it would be! The cottage was cozy and accommodating, and I loved the fact that my guest and I could walk to the beach. It was also incredibly helpful to have a Trader Joe's and decent restaurants nearby. I was also grateful grateful for Sanctuary Vacation Rentals' clear communication leading up to my stay as well as their willingness to accommodate my early check-in request. I miss the Storybook Cottage already!"

“A Lovely Cottage. We had a lovely few days at Storybook Cottage, the kitchen is THE most well equipped kitchen I have ever encountered! Access to TV on demand was an unexpected bonus, not that we watched much. It was a short walk to the Aquarium (which was excellent). We can recommend the scuba diving opportunities for 8-13 year olds, our youngest had a fantastic time. It was a lovely place to stay, I would recommend it without hesitation (and this from someone who's fussy!).”

“Storybook Cottage... This home is so inviting the moment you walk through the white picked fence gate and gaze upon the California native vegetation which is perfect for attracting the Butterflies during their season stays. Walking through the front door I felt very drawn to the warm and inviting decor of the home and the painted stone fireplace. I spent many mornings with my coffee and book warming by the fire. The kitchen is beautiful with everything you need to make a delicious meal and it has a washer/dryer in the kitchen hidden behind a cabinet door which I used. Nice to have 2 bathrooms and 4 beautifully decorated bedrooms to give you that old world charm that this home presents. This home was completely redone inside and out, very well kept and extremely clean. The location was great. Your only blocks from Cannery Row and Aquarium and the 7 mile trail. We ran every morning down to the trail for our daily run and you are so close to downtown with all it's restaurants and cute shops. If you are a walker then you can walk to everything. Also only minutes to Carmel and it only was 25 miles to Big Sur and 15 min to Point Lobos. Santa Cruz was just about 30 min. We had a great time and would visit again. Great for kids to rent bikes and beach at Lovers Point too. You too will feel the love and attention that Storybook Cottage was given to make sure you feel invited and at home, and be on the look out for the deer that pay visits through town and our last day we had one come up to the front gate and greet our daughter that morning. Love it!”

“Cute and Cozy Rental the rental was "almost" exactly what i had expected from the posted pictures of this cottage. overall, the people in our party enjoyed our stay here. i will list two cons we only had about this place... * the sink in the downstairs bathroom is teeny-tiny. cute for young children but yet cold and hot water comes out of two different faucets. * not a lot of room in the shower stalls (i'm a petite 5'1"). the taller men (5'11") were able to use them but not too comfortable. also, if you have children who only take baths, it'll be a problem for there is no hand-held shower head option. (i think i'll email the management company with a suggestion for hand-held shower heads.) now to the pros... roomy and updated kitchen. we enjoyed cooking in the well-stocked kitchen that we didn't go out to eat which saved us some money and that's always a plus. :) ample seating in the dining room. very cozy living with a great fireplace. the beds were cozy. nice linens and towels. the management company is very professional and thorough and booking was very easy. i would rent another property from sanctuary vacation rentals again.”

“Charming Property And Recently Renovated The house was charmingly decorated & everything was brand new, from the kitchen itself to the cookware, dishes, and towels, . High-end appliances and everything was provided--dishwashing detergent, softsoap in bathrooms, bath gel, shampoo/conditioner, tea bags, coffee, new hangers in closets; I could go on. This is a first-rate rental in that regard & I've rented quite a bit. Usually, I need to buy all of that so it was a pleasant surprise. This is a vintage house & you should not expect a suburban McMansion. We were fine with it since we have a small house ourselves, but some might find it lacking in privacy. Definitely do not expect a huge bathroom. The shower upstairs can be a little tight and if you are someone who needs a posh bathroom with large vanity, makeup area and dressing room, you'll be disappointed. 2 bedrooms have a walk-in closet. The living area is reasonably sized. We walked to the ocean bike/running path, the Pacific Grove shops& the Monterey Aquarium/Cannery Row area. Many places for coffee and meals and a neat combined bookstore/coffee shop in Pacific Grove whose coffee we liked the best. We found a terrific little pastry shop called Patisserie Bechler. If you like cookies and napoleons and tarts, etc, be sure to check it out. We had 2 teenagers and had a great time climbing around and checking out tide pools at Asilomar Beach and one day we watched a group of otters swimming there for a very long time. Great sunset vistas too. We drove down to Carmel and Big Sur and were awed by the scenic views. We also drove up to Santa Cruz through the fields of artichokes and strawberries and bought some delicious berries at farmstands. Monterey has a large shopping mall nearby (driving distance) where the Whole Foods is, also a Safeway and Trader Joe's in Pacific Grove and several Farmer's markets. Very cute shops, especially consignment shops in Monterey (I didn't go in). My only complaint on this trip would be the mattress. I like a very hard mattress and these were definitely not. Good pillows though! We did not need to contact the property agent. They supplied a binder with useful information on the area as well as instructions on the stove (which was European so a little different) and other information about the property. No issues connecting to the internet--again, clearly provided wifi password. Full Cable tv (Xfinity) including HBO. I would definitely recommend!”

“Most Adorable Cottage And The Attention To Detail Is Impressive This has to be one of the most adorable cottages I have stayed in and the name Storybook could not be more perfect. The attention to detail is really impressive and can be seen everywhere I turned. I felt like I was in a Carmel cottage except that I was in Pacific Grove which I have actually come to prefer staying in over Carmel by the Sea. This house is small but has plenty of space for privacy and has everything you could possibly need. The small bonus room with the daybed off the living room was perfect for taking a nap and reading my book. You really do not need to bring anything except your clothes and I suggest you don’t because there is limited storage space especially in the bathrooms. (everything is scaled down but that is part of its charm). There are 3 good size closets in the 4 bedrooms and a nice garage for suitcases and bikes to store overflow. I loved having my tea in the garden of flowers each morning. I felt like I was in a Monet’s Garden postcard. We had several sunny days and blue skies and you can definitely see the Ocean from the upstairs and kitchen. I appreciated all the beach chairs and gear that were provided. Everything is brand-new and the house is spotless. The bed was very comfortable and the kitchen was my favorite place to hang out and by far has one of the nicest collections of plates and serving ware I have seen in a vacation rental. (It actually all matches and coordinates). The wine and cheese and welcome note was a nice touch as was the spa robe to lounge in. Sanctuary was great and all the staff very helpful. I am in the hospitality business (Inn owner in Vermont) and I was impressed by the quality of care and concern for my comfort. The beach house Restaurant sunset dinner at lovers point is the best deal in town and the food and the location can’t be beat. (need to arrive by 5:30 and I suggest reservations as it was packed at 5 pm). I also love the Crema Wine Bar and coffee house that has recently been added to Pacific Grove downtown. I will definitely tell my friends about storybook cottage and Sanctuary Vacation Rentals.”
