Sanctuary Vacation Rentals is proud to present "The Waves"! Sleeps up to 5 adults.

A vintage architectural gem, perched on the edge of the Pacific Ocean awaits guests to Yankee Point south of Carmel. Enjoy magical views of waves and water, where the sound of the waves will lull you to sleep.

This 2,272 sf Carmel Highlands oceanfront home was designed by renowned local architect John Gamble to resemble a bird in flight over a river, with the river being the stone stairway inside the center of the home. Natural stone and wood inside the home invite guests to become one with the rugged coastline and surrounding environment. In this dramatic setting, the land’s end and the ocean’s beginning can be fully appreciated.

The home has cathedral ceilings, generous natural light, two beautifully updated spa-inspired bathrooms, and a security gate.

Despite the feeling of being away from it all, it’s just five minutes by car to shopping and dining in downtown Carmel, and 15 minutes to golf in Pebble Beach®, historic Pacific Grove or Cannery Row and the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

Flanked by windswept cypress trees, the home has mid-century touches such as vintage pendant lighting, natural stone interior walls and stone steps inside the home. An oceanfront patio has stone benches and a table, an ideal place to watch whales and sunsets.

Living Spaces
The great room has a 48-inch TV and comfortable seating that includes a leather sectional. Full ocean views are breathtaking from the floor to ceiling windows. Original artwork can be found throughout, as well as antique and eclectic furnishings.

Stone steps lead to a small office space with a desk in a tower wing, with views of an adjacent cove.

Kitchen and Dining
The mid-century vintage kitchen has original blue tile counters, a double oven and a Bosch electric cook-top. The adjacent dining room is slightly elevated above the living area and has ocean views.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms
The main stairway leads to the two largest bedroom suites.
Bedroom #1, has a split king bed with foam topper or two twins, a small reading nook with a selection of books and a bath with large shower, a vanity area with sink, and custom tile. This is a fully enclosed bedroom suite.

Bedroom #2 is a loft that is open to the lower level to take full advantage of ocean views from the living room's floor to ceiling windows. It has a king bed. Guests should take note of this unique floor plan understanding that this bedroom is not fully enclosed or completely private from the lower level.
A large, en suite bath includes a two-person shower with custom tile, dual sinks, a shaving mirror, and seating.

Downstairs, Bedroom #3 has rock-lined walls, a queen bed and a small en suite full bath with tub/shower combo. The ceiling of this unique bedroom opens to the great room, so guests should note that this room is not fully enclosed from the living spaces.

At the base of the second-level stairway is a convenient half-bath with blue tile and copper basin. This is located near the entry.

Ample parking is available in the large driveway which is gated. The garage is not available to guests.

Due to the cliff-side location and multiple stairways in the house, only fully supervised, well-behaved children should be guests, due to safety concerns.

Well-behaved dogs under 35 lbs are welcome with pre-approval, an additional pet fee and a signed pet addendum.
Dogs should never be left anywhere in or on the property unsupervised. Keep in mind the cliff side location. The front yard is fenced and gated, but the ocean side of the home is not entirely fenced.

Overall Comment

Stayed here for a self-imposed retreat. What's so wonderful are the crashing waves all around. Off of the back porch, you can go down the steps all the way to the water!

Inside, it's cute - the loft bedroom has wonderful sea views. Would be perfect for several friends, two couples, probably not children (too many steps, open areas wouldn't be quiet). No problems staying here and nothing really missing except that the fireplace isn't functional. Absolutely loved the steam shower!

Overall Comment

The location and view were phenomenal!! ...but the house itself is rather dated (other than the recently renovated upstairs bathrooms - which was such a contrast to the rest of the house). The kitchen in particular is in need of a refresh. But if you are not cooking at all, the views more than make up for the dated state of the house.

Interesting & impressive house with killer views

Overall Comment

THE WAVES is one of the most interesting and impressive houses I've ever seen. Its architecture is gorgeous and unorthodox in the most stylish ways. The intangible yet powerful "vibe" of beauty and personality saturates the entire property, providing functionality, awe and comfort. The building is a 10 out of 10, but the real superstar feature is THE VIEW. Floor to ceiling windows allow you to live in the impossibly cool scenery of the ocean. You get your own private stairway to a secluded bench looking down on the water. Sunsets were unreal and night time gave clear views of the Milky Way galaxy. Though this house was near the downtowns of Monterey and Carmel, we felt like this house trumped those otherwise great travel destinations - we liked sitting in the house more than visiting the tourist spots. The agency managing this house was friendly, easy and attentive. A great experience.

Overall Comment

The team at Sanctuary Rentals were very easy to work with and communication was great. The house itself sits on an amazing property right on the ocean with beautiful views. It's a funky, weird, and very open floor plan with floor to ceiling glass overlooking the water. If you're a couple or maybe traveling with one other couple then this would work for you but if you have a large family with kids then this would be a challenging home as every room is open like a giant loft and you can hear everything. The house is dated in a lot of ways and the kitchen is workable (but not great) while the two upstairs baths have been beautifully renovated. The bedding, linens, and towels were all very good and the small office/library was perfect for someone working remotely. Caution in that Verizon cell service DOES NOT work at all but AT&T does - we knew this going into the rental because the Sanctuary team were open and honest with us so we brought some AT&T hotspots with us to make sure we could use wi-fi calling on our Verizon phones while not in range of the houses wi-fi. Again, the Sanctuary team was very open and honest with us prior to the stay letting us know the plusses and challenges so we were not surprised. The only negative was that the fireplace did not work despite attempts by the Sanctuary team to fix it - they tried their best but the issue was something major that could not be quickly remedied. Overall, I would definitely work with the Sanctuary team again for this or other properties. If you manage your expectations and know what you're getting into then this property is a real gem simply because of how beautiful the property is and the service provided by Sanctuary. If you're looking for the Ritz and everything being pristine and perfect or if you're a big family with kids then you should probably look at other properties.
