Holiday Vacation at Sticks and Stones, Carmel, California

Overall Comment
We enjoyed 3800 Sticks and Stones for thirty days over the holiday season. It is as described, a good-sized home with European Flair. The location was superb; we were able to take a brief walk to the beach anytime of day, particularly at sunset, and we were a brief walk from all the wonderful restaurants, shops and amenities in Carmel. Plus, the home is ideally located to enjoy the Monterey Peninsula, including Pacific Gove and Monterey itself. The house itself served our family well(nine of us all together) for a several-day holiday gathering. The casita adjacent to the courtyard is an especially nice bonus for family or friends to enjoy. The courtyard is beautiful and filled with flowers. And, the-off street parking is great - such a nice thing in busy Carmel! The staff at Sanctuary Vacation Rentals, including Jeanette and Kisha, could not have been better to deal with. They were prompt and attentive to any concerns or questions we had. In addition, they were just very nice people to work with, and we’d like to give a shout out to their handy man and their cleaning help, Laura and Antonio. Plus Barbara who covered the phones at certain times was very nice to deal with, and helpful. Overall, we had a very nice stay at Sticks and Stones.

Sticks and Stone was beautiful. The home was very clean and ready for us at check in. The location could not have been more perfect. Approx 2 blocks to the ocean and 2 blocks to town. The Casita in the rear yar had power issues so our guess were not able to there so 2 people had to sleep on the couch. Made it a little uncomfortable at times. Sanctuary was responsive when we contacted them regarding this issue but wasn’t able to fix it during our stay. Until the power is repaired in the Casita they should advertise the home for 8 people not 10.

We have stayed in many vacation rentals, in Carmel and elsewhere, and this ranks at the top. With pleasant, comfortable, clean, roomy, well-equipped accommodations, in the perfect location, this was exactly what we needed for our annual January getaway to this beautiful town. Sun, surf, and sand, great restaurants, miles of beach and trails to walk. My only disappointment is that Sticks and Stones is not available for next January.

Kitchen layout is funky. 20 steps (40 roundtrip) from dishwasher to dishware storage. The cabinets for storage are difficult to open and close. Recommend open shelves above dishwasher for dishware storage. There are no dinner plates, pasta bowls are not dinner plates.

In the cabinet by the dining room table there is a full selection of dinnerware for the guests use. Overall Comment
We have been traveling to Carmel for over 30 years and have stayed in literally dozens of properties over the years. Stick and Stones was the pinnacle of all those experiences. Sanctuary was, by far, the most professional, accommodating, caring "landlord" I have dealt with in all those years. The house was exquisite - just as described, perfect location, amenities to spare. Everything was perfect upon arrival and Sanctuary was very helpful throughout our stay.
We made it every evening the 3 blocks to the beach for sunset (and most mornings for a sunrise walk). The village was wonderful for walking, coffee, meals and shopping. The only time we left the area was to go to Big Sur, 17 Mile Drive and the Aquarium (we had guests new to the area).
If you've been here before, this is the perfect place to stay. If you've never experienced Carmel-By-The-Sea, get there soon!
