Located in the heart of downtown Pacific Grove, it’s easy to park your car and walk everywhere — to dining, shopping and movies, as well as to nearby Lovers Point and the popular Recreation Trail which borders the bay.

This brand-new 2-bedroom, 2-bath condo, located on the NE corner on the fourth-floor of the historic Holman Building, brings minimalist modern glamour as well as a glimpse into the past. The building, originally a famous department store founded in 1918, was frequently visited by legendary author John Steinbeck, who purchased his writing materials and household items there. The home is named “Sweet Thursday” after one of Steinbeck’s novels about Cannery Row.

Designer décor can be found throughout this extraordinary 2,250-square-foot vacation home, which is within walking distance of the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Cannery Row. Also close by are the world-class golf courses and restaurants of Pebble Beach®, the beautiful views of 17 Mile Drive, the natural wonders of Big Sur, and wine tasting and dining in Carmel Valley Village.

A parking garage underneath the Holman building is available to guests, with an elevator to take you to the upper level.

From this North-East corner unit, you’ll see amazing views including the sunrise, the Monterey Bay and the Santa Cruz Mountains. The spacious living room takes full advantage of this, along with the outdoor balcony, a perfect spot to enjoy a beverage while watching the sights on the bay.

Living Spaces
In the living room, a selection of contemporary furniture invites conversation, togetherness, or relaxing by watching the 60-inch HDTV above a remote-control electric fireplace that can change colors with the touch of a button.
The open floor plan with bleached hardwood floors blends together living room, kitchen and dining room seamlessly.
Off the hallway is an office with a desk and a queen sleeper sofa as a bedroom alternative which is located near the half bath and another doorway leads to a laundry room with washer and dryer.

Kitchen and Dining
The kitchen features marble counter-tops, modern cabinetry, top-of-the-line stainless steel appliances including a five-burner gas stove and French door refrigerator. A marble-topped kitchen island lit by pendant lighting offers a generous amount of space for food prep and serving as well as a handy sink, and a walk-in pantry is also available. Well-equipped for extended stays!

Bedrooms and Bathrooms
Bedroom #1 - A suite with picture windows looking out over the homes and historic buildings of Pacific Grove, with bay and mountains in the distance. A king-sized bed and a seating area.
The en suite bathroom has a walk-in closet, deep soaking tub, and dual sinks. A separate shower has a built-in seat and two shower heads.
Bedroom #2 has the same spectacular bay views, a queen bed, and an en suite bath with a shower.

One reserved parking space is available in the garage below and additional parking is available on the street.

Please note that in 2024 there is an construction project in the lot to the rear of this building. Your ocean view will not be impeded.

This home is a monthly rental and we request that all nights of your stay are within the same calendar month. Some exceptions may be possible, with the approval of our team and the homeowner. Extended stays are often possible.

wonderful vacation condo

The Sweet Thursday condo was a wonderful vacation experience. Having retreated to Pacific Grove for many year, it was a pleasure staying in the historic Holman Building. The condo has everything you would want during your stay. Everything is a pleasant walk away and the building safe and well kept. Sanctuary Vacation rentals were easy and very responsive to questions and protocol. Will definitely plan our next stay with Sanctuary and hopefully Sweet Thursday.

sweet thursday has the view

Overall Comment

We booked for January 2024 and were so impressed with the condo we booked for February as well. The condo is stocked with everything you would possibly need for an extended. The only downside for me is the very soft mattress in the primary and secondary bedrooms. My preference is for a more firm mattress. Secured underground parking stall 9 worked for our GMC Acadia nicely.

extraordinary

We rented Sweet Thursday for the month of November. It was amazing. There's no other way to describe it. The space was comfortable and roomy. The views of the bay were so incredible that we almost never ate dinner out. We cooked or ordered food in and sat at the dining room table taking it all in. I'm up early and watched the sunrise every morning. I could go on and on, but you get the idea. We will be back.
Also, Sanctuary Rentals was great to work with. They were very responsive and professional. 5 Stars!

My husband and I vacationed at Sweet Thursday for the months of July, August and, September. We had a fantastic time. The apartment is centrally located in Pacific Grove making it extremely convenient to everything. The apartment was super clean, new, sparkling and bright. Sanctuary Vacation Rentals was a pleasure every single time and truly enjoyed their promptness and kindness all throughout. The cleaning crew was wonderful. Sincerely enjoyed our stay and highly recommend.

magnificent 5 star spacious, bright accommodation

We have traveled the world and never found a place quite like this. Located in the heart of the northern California coast, Pacific Grove still feels like a small town.  It’s a quick drive to Carmel, Monterrey and Big Sur, but we didn’t want to leave our neighborhood! We walked everywhere: to cafes, shops, bakery, restaurants, grocery stores and, of course, along the bay. There were so many restaurants to choose from, though take-out was a favorite because the views from unit 402 were unsurpassed and the gourmet kitchen made meal prep easy. Every room in this spacious, bright space has breathtaking views from every angle. The windows open and two balconies facing the bay offer ever changing views of a coastline teaming with wildlife by day and the twinkling magical lights of Monterrey by night with the moon shimmering over the crashing waves. The walk to the beach is on a historic path where we passed Steinbeck’s home. The Holman building where Unit 402 is located was originally a department store where Steinbeck frequented to buy writing supplies. Our peaceful walk to the beach was only interrupted by fawns crossing our path, but cars were thankfully rare. We cannot wait to return. ~ Susan and Peter G.

sweet escape

Sweet Thursday is a truly stunning and unique property. Situated in the historic Holman building and beautifully remodeled, it’s evident great thought and care was put into every detail. We enjoyed the chef’s kitchen, balconies with water views, and succulent garden. Pacific Grove is a charming village with cute shops and good restaurants. We walked to Lover’s Point beach nearly every day. The best part is the phenomenal view of Monterey Bay; whether it was watching the sun come up, the fog roll in, or the marine life — it’s a truly meditative escape from the hustle of daily life and exactly the getaway we needed. We hope to return someday!
