Overall Comment
Wonderful. We felt like we'd arrived at someone's home for a quiet dinner, and they had stepped out. Crackers, cheese and sparkling cider awaited us and everything was fresh, clean and tidy. We would stay here again and highly recommend the Mermaid Loft if you plan on visiting Pacific Grove, Monterey, and Carmel.

The Mermaid Loft was all I had hoped it would be. The loft was clean upon arrival, and the perfect size for 2 people. The location is the best with easy access to the ocean side trail, as well as Lighthouse Ave. restaurants. The Sanctuary staff was excellent to work with and very responsive & communicative. Would definitely stay here again.

What a great place. Perfect for two. 100 steps to the ocean. Nice view. Access to amazing walking paths. Watching the sun rise every morning. Easy walk or short drive to watch the sun set. We had an amazing time and will stay again. The staff at Sanctuary truly seem to love what they do. Great check in and check out directions (not always easy) and easy access to the rental. We would not change a thing.

The place was beautiful - small but perfect and really well stocked given the size. The view of the ocean was really special and we appreciated being able to walk to the nearby Main Street with our young baby, as well as the ocean super close. The privacy really helped us feel relaxed while our son was getting through his jet lag as well! Be aware there are steps inside to get up to the living space - not a problem for us but you need to be able to carry your stuff. The welcome crackers cheese and wine were very much appreciated! Would recommend staying here to explore the area.

Great Location, an alley and house away from the beach trail and shore! The house was extremely clean and tidy when we got there, just like the photos. Bed was softer than we like but still comfortable and cozy. One parking space, just enough for a regular size sedan to park parallel to the alley/street in front of the house. Host was proactive in reaching out if we had any questions. We walked from the house to the Monterey Aquarium and Old Fisherman's Wharf along the Monterey Recreational Trail.

My spouse and I loved our stay at the Mermaid Loft where we celebrated our anniversary. It is small but very functional and only steps away from the ocean and a short walk to downtown Pacific Grove. I would definitely recommend staying here (unless you are trying to book it during the same time we want to visit again).

Great location. Next to the bike and walking path. Very bright with lots of windows. Partial view of the bay, we were able to see the otters each morning from the kitchen. We really enjoy the place and wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again if we travel back to the Monterey area.

We really liked the location which is a very short walk to the ocean trail. There were a few things that could be improved, but overall I would probably return. Probably best for a weekend stay. The kitchen is not meant for meals in house! The stove is old electric with coils that are off kilter. There’s very few kitchen tools, but plenty of serrated knives! Obviously the kitchen is tiny.

Adorable getaway steps from the water!

My boyfriend and I enjoyed the Mermaid Loft!
Pros:
- Location: 1 block from the water and a few mins walk to Lovers Point. We walked the 1.5 miles along the path to Cannery Row and it was gorgeous the whole way! A 3 min drive to the heart of Pacific Grove and Carmel is only 15 mins.
- Sanctuary was easy to work with and checked in via text and phone, which was really nice. They were quite responsive with questions.
- Having the small kitchen was nice to store food in the fridge and they provide coffee/tea for the mornings. We didn't cook in the kitchen but it looked pretty well stocked.
-Parking out front is convenient and easy (if you only have 1 room for more than that.)
Cons (not much!):
- The mattress REALLY needs to be replaced. It's not supportive at all and folds in on itself. We called it the Taco Bed. As much as we loved the location and rest of the loft, I wouldn't stay here again without a new mattress.
- The lighting in the bedroom could be changed out. The sconce on the wall is much too bright/blue-colored for the evenings but the lamps are more like nightlights and you can't read by them.
- Be careful with both the blinds and the closet doors in the bedroom. Both are easy to get off track. Should be an easy fix and I mentioned it on the checkout forms so hopefully those are fixed up.
- While the washer/dryer is nice to have, there isn't any detergent, FYI.

I booked this property for some alone time and it did not disappoint. It was comfortable, had all of the amenities I needed and it was right across the street from the beautiful beach trail. Having a designated parking was also nice to be able to walk down to the restaurants at Lover's Point and all around. I will definitely be staying again!

Love the rental but definitely needs a new mattress

This is my second time staying in this rental. I love it though I was not thrilled about the mattress on my first visit and humbly offered my suggestion to change it out. You sink down into it considerably and it is not comfortable. Knowing I was returning for another trip, I called Sanctuary Vacation Rentals and asked if they could reach out to the owner. The owner was NOT willing to change out the mattress.
I truly want to come back to this rental (I visit Pacific Grove twice a year). However, I'm not sure I can sleep on such an uncomfortable mattress again. I believe I am the second person to post about the uncomfortable mattress. Once again, I humbly ask the owner to reconsider getting a new mattress.
With the exception of the mattress - everything is great. Perfect location with an excellent view. House is always clean. Perfect for 1 or 2 people. Description and pictures are accurate.

Overall great place... wonderful location! Adequate size for one person or a couple. Enjoyed walking out to the ocean with coffee in the morning. Having a bottle of wine, crackers and cheese on the table to greet us was certainly a nice touch! A few things to consider: The mattress is old, lumpy and very uncomfortable. which didn't make for a great night's sleep. Restocking things like toilet paper, paper towels, etc. was overlooked. There wasn't a scrub brush or sponge to wash dishes with, which made that a challenge... As I said, a great place overall; just a few details that need to be improved upon. We really enjoyed the stay and it's a charming place!
