Maintaining its original Arts and Crafts design though thoughtfully renovated, this lovely 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath, 2,600 sf home has partial ocean views and soaring redwood cathedral ceilings. Eclectic period paintings, large book and pottery collections, built-in redwood and antique furniture all create a warm, intimate, yet surprisingly expansive and dramatic ambience in this 100 year old home.
This home is not the usual Carmel vacation rental. Built in 1926, it was the first home erected on Valley View at Scenic and was designed by a prominent author, publisher, artist and explorer. Views of Point Lobos, the Carmel Highlands and Stewart's Cove from this stunning, impressive home. The Arts and Crafts redwood interior includes a soaring living room, stone fireplace, winding staircase, balcony and a den. Full of eclectic furnishings from Shaker-to-Asian and an extensive library and art collection.
Just a 'chip shot' away from the beach. A walk around Carmel Point starts right as you step out the front door.
Living Space
The floor plan and window placement, upstairs and down, provide views of Pt. Lobos and Stewart’s Cove.
The large living room provides two comfortable seating areas, HDTV and DVD, and a classic Carmel Stone wood-burning fireplace with gas starter.
The intimate den also has a HDTV and DVD player. Nearby is the first floor half-bath.
Outside, patio areas are placed around the home - one is home to a table with six chairs, perfect for dining al fresco, another seating grouping is arranged on gravel, surrounded by a large Cypress tree, privacy fencing and mature landscaping.
Kitchen and Dining
An impeccable large, modern kitchen has stainless steel appliances (dishwasher, refrigerator, gas range, microwave, HDTV w/ DVD, but no garbage disposal) and a spacious dining room with French doors on three sides that lead out to two patios, and easy access to the gas BBQ grill.
Bedrooms and Bathrooms
Upstairs:
Bedroom #1 has a king bed and a writing nook with a large built-in desk and an ocean view.
Bedroom #2 has a queen bed and French doors that open onto a rooftop sun deck viewing the Carmel Highlands mountains.
The upstairs shared full bathroom has a shower-over-tub combination.
Downstairs:
Bedroom #3 has two twin beds.
The lower level full bathroom has a large standing shower.
The home also has a half bathroom on the lower level.
There is off-street parking for two cars (but no garage) and on-street parking is convenient.
