Freshly updated main house with optional guest house. Two-bedroom, two-bathroom main house and two-bedroom, two-bathroom guest house can be rented together or separately. Each house sleeps up to four guests.

A newly renovated mid-century home surrounded by garden and deck areas is close to everything but away from the typical tourist areas in a quiet neighborhood.

The 1200sf Main home is shaded by Live Oak trees and framed by succulents and lawn. It has sophisticated cottage décor with whitewashed open beam ceilings, hardwood floors and the home’s original Carmel stone fireplace with gas insert. A deck with comfortable patio furniture and privacy fencing add to the serene setting.

It’s just a 10-minute walk to shopping and dining in downtown Carmel, or a few minutes by car to the beach. It’s also a 10-minute drive to local attractions like golf and sightseeing in Pebble Beach®, vintage Victorian homes and Monarch butterflies in Pacific Grove, or to historic Cannery Row and the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

The front door entry opens to the living room, which features cozy seating around the gas fireplace and a 42-inch HDTV. Large windows look out on a beautifully landscaped garden.

The adjacent kitchen has gray painted cabinetry with soft closures, marble countertops, updated stainless steel appliances including a gas range, generous counter space, a deep farmhouse sink with pull-out faucet, and an adjacent dining area. There’s easy access from the kitchen to the back deck, which has a gourmet gas grill and patio seating, a perfect spot for afternoon barbecues. Well-equipped for extended stays!

Bedroom #1 looks out on a private sea of green in the front yard. It includes a king-sized bed with crisp linens, a step-in closet and an en suite bathroom with a tiled shower.
Bedroom #2 has two twin beds that convert to a split king with foam topper as needed.
The nearby bathroom has a tub/shower combination and adjustable shower head.

A laundry closet has a stacked washer and dryer. Street parking is available on the quiet street. There is a completely separate rear guest house and privacy fencing separates the two units. Driveway parking is reserved for the rear house guests.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome with pre-approval, an additional pet fee and a signed pet addendum. Preference given to quiet, non-shedding pets with trimmed nails. All dog potty business must be done off the property while walking in the pleasant neighborhood, but please pick up after your pet.

lovely quiet spot!

I had the pleasure of staying at Belle Folie from December through February. The home had everything I needed. Lovely indoor and outdoor spaces make this home special. Easy access to Hwy 1, groceries, shopping, restaurants and beaches. Friendly neighborhood. Owners are fantastic!

My husband and I had a lovely experience. The two bedroom cottage was perfect for us and the couple who joined us one weekend. The yard is lovely and private and the kitchen well stocked - as well stocked as my home kitchen which is rare in a rental. Nice mile walk to beach and shorter to town - all up hill coming back but such a charming walk - we didn't mind! Would definitely stay again!

summer getaway

Overall Comment

It was a great location for walking to town and the beach. A bit of a hike uphill but we enjoyed it. It was nice to get out of the heat during the summer and there was plenty to do.

july belle folie

Overall Comment

We had a great time in July. The house was beautifully remodeled and well stocked. The area was quiet and convenient to highway 1.
Our only suggestions relate to the bedrooms. Both have very sheer curtains which make for early mornings as the sun beams in. The beds are also very worn. We would recommend some room darkening and looking for a new mattress.

clean and functional with good flow

Overall Comment

The 1200-sqft interior of the property is updated, clean and functional, has a good flow, and is very pet friendly. Located 1 mile from town, it’s an easy walk into town (all downhill) but a more challenging walk for the return, a rise in elevation of 400 feet. We were a couple visiting Carmel for the entire month of September, with family members visiting every weekend. Four persons easily lived and moved about this two bedroom, two bath, cottage comfortably. We give the cottage a 5-star rating overall. As for negatives there were only two. First, there is a ton of kitchen accessories which left little room for food storage and second, there are two cottages on the property, not just one. Parking for the Belle Folie cottage is on the street. The driveway/carport adjoining the Belle Folie is assigned parking for the rear cottage. Parking and movement of the rear cottage vehicles was a distraction.
As for Carmel itself, it's a perfect setting that has evolved into an overcrowded tourist town. But that’s the way with most things that start of perfect. Depending on time of day, and day of the week, the quaintness of Carmel can all but disappear. The combination of restaurants, wine bars, art galleries and hotel/motels is crowning out much of the quaintness. Vehicle parking in and near town is a nightmare. If one wine bar is good, 35 is better. If one hotel/motel is good, 100 is better, and so on. One thing that has not been allowed to creep into Carmel is the "corporate store". No Starbuck, only local coffee shops and bakeries. No fast-food establishments, only local restaurants. Maintaining the look and feel of a village remains a positive. Will we be back? Yes. Will it be for another extended stay? No. In future, a long non-holiday weekend is all we will need.

fabulous home

Our stay was seamless, the home was just as it is pictured and the kitchen is outfitted with everything you need. The bed is very comfortable, the surroundings quiet with friendly neighbors. Great outdoor space as well. Just a 20 minute walk to the village, uphill coming home for a good workout.
Highly recommend.
