Just south of Carmel, in the last populated area before the stretch of Highway 1 leading to Big Sur, lies the remarkable residential community of Carmel Highlands. Gorgeous homes, including that of famed photographer Ansell Adams, dot the dramatic rocky shoreline and rugged mountains on either side of the highway. This is where you'll find Point Lobos, that astonishing piece of shoreline property (now a state park) that celebrated author Robert Lewis Stevenson once described as the “greatest meeting of land and sea on earth.”
